Biographical Information
Gordon Beavers obtained his B.A. and M.A. Degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. After the B.A. he held positions with General Dynamics, Tracor, and the University of Texas, primarily as a FORTRAN programmer. After a period of running a small business in northwest Arkansas, Dr. Beavers returned to academics as a Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Arkansas, August 1984-May 1985, and then moved on to obtain a Ph. D. from Indiana University at Bloomington, with dissertation that provided soundness and completeness results for all extensions of the infinite-valued Lukasiewicz logic. While at Indiana University he helped develop a computer chip to evaluate expressions in many-valued logic.
After receiving his Ph.D. he accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of the Ozarks, August 1991-July 1996 and was promoted to Associate Professor for the period August 1996-May 1999. For the two academic years 1999-2001 Dr. Beavers served as Visiting Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Arkansas, where he currently holds the position of Associate Professor of Computer Science and serves as Associate Department Head. Dr. Beavers' areas of expertise include Logic, Theory of Computation, and graph algorithms. He serves as the faculty advisor for the ACM Programming team at University of Arkansas.
