Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the requirements for admission to graduate study in computer science or computer engineering?
A: A four year baccalaureate degree from an accredited university or college in a computer science or computer engineering or closely related field. Applicants with other degrees that have experience in the area will b considered for admission.  

Normally an applicant for the computer engineering graduate program would be expected to have coursework covering the material presented in the following courses: Programming Foundations I & II, Digital Techniques I & II, Data Structures, Circuits & Electronics, Computer Organization, Logic Synthesis-VHDL, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, and Computer Architecture

Normally an applicant for the computer science graduate program would be expected to have coursework covering the material presented in the following courses: Programming Foundations I & II, Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Organization, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Programming Languages, Formal Languages

Q: Do we admit provisionally if some of the listed courses haven't been completed?
A: Yes, students could be admited with some course deficiencies. 

Q: Do we require the GRE?
A: Yes, we require the general test of the GRE.

Q: What are the cutoff scores on the GRE?
A: We consider the complete undergraduate record and the GRE scores. For the masters programs a score of 720 or greater on the quantitative section and a verbal score at he 50 percentile would be considered acceptable for admission. For the PhD programs a score of 750 or greater is required.

Q: If I am admitted to the Graduate School, but I am not admitted to the computer science or computer engineering graduate studies program, may I enroll for graduate courses?
A: Yes, but there is no guarantee that such courses will later be counted toward a degree. The Graduate School prohibits more than 12 hours of such course work to count toward a graduate degree.

Q: Do you accept industrial or commercial certificates or diplomas or experience instead of the listed academic course work required for admission?
A:  Most such experiences are beneficial to the candidate, but they aren't accepted in lieu of academic preparation for graduate study.

Q: What are the requirements for a graduate degree?
A: Please see the Graduate Catalog on-line for the requirements for an MS or PhD degree in computer science or computer engineering.
